I was listening today to the wonderful Joni Mitchell song. I heard “We’re captive on the carousel of time” It struck me that it was such a detached perspective, I read she wrote it for a friend I guess to give him perspective. The lyrics are prescient, at the time she wrote it she would not have the perspective of a long life looking back. We can also never tell what is ahead of us and will come around the bend, no matter how we think, we can never anticipate them.

I heard a beautiful live recording by her doing the song and she is relatively young, the song is really beautiful hearing the lyrics again after reading the lyrics. I have heard many versions of the song and love it.

I woke up in the middle of the night hearing it in my head. I have been in two long relationships with many ups and downs and beautiful things along the way. Looking back over them and the way the patterns repeat within the same relationship and in comparison between the two relationships. Also in both relationships I have been through many years and many seasons which I have loved aspects of all.

Of course the literal and metaphorical reading of “The seasons they go round and round,” within a year or a few years, but also the seasons of life. I love the way her song goes through several phases of life, I think she could write some additional verses from later in life, but it’s only me looking back at things, I am sure she has done the same through her life.

I live near Lincoln Center and enjoy walking around the area. Though I can’t afford to go to many performances I have seen several Operas at the Metropolitan Opera. I enjoy Puccini mainly, the staging they have done are quite marvelous.

It’s quite an interesting area to go walking around through, if you are in the area, you should explore it.

The 57-foot-tall U.S.S. Maine National Monument, located near Central Park’s southwest gate, honors the American servicemen who perished when the Navy ship, the U.S.S. Maine, exploded in 1898 and drowned in Havana harbor, Cuba.

Newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst launched a campaign for a memorial to remember the lost sailors a few days after the disaster. The New York Morning Journal, his publication, served as his forum. Donations of various sizes poured in from all across the city.

The monument’s intricate symbolism, which is a little challenging to understand now, represented American ambitions for political supremacy in the early 20th century. All of the monument’s figurative sculptures and other sculptural details were made by Italian-American sculptor Attilio Piccirilli of the well-known Piccirilli Brothers. The architect was H. Van Buren Magonigle.

The striking gilded female figure at the summit of the monument symbolizes the Americas or Columbia. Three hippocampi, mythological creatures that are half horse and half seahorse and frequently symbolize power, are driving her chariot as she stands proudly with her arm uplifted. Groups of figures with the titles Courage Awaiting the Flight of Peace and Fortitude Supporting the Feeble and Justice Receiving Back the Sword Entrusted to War are located at the base of the enormous pedestal. Male figures are reclining on either side of the pedestal; the older figure symbolizes the Pacific Ocean, while the younger one depicts the Atlantic Ocean.

Donald Trump is afraid of Putin and will never confront him either in public or in the media. He is not supporting Ukraine because he is afraid of Putin. If he were not he would confront him like other leaders in Nato are and support Ukraine. Iran is a satellite of Russia as is Cuba and Venezuela as well.

Not to be forgotten are the facts that Trump released oil sanctions on Russia helping the Terror on Ukraine, and Iran and Russia are selling our Targeting information to our enemies

All of these un ending war games by him and his team are just passive aggressive tactics. He should stand up to Russia! He should just support Ukraine like the rest of the free world.
